Tri-City Association of  Educational Office Professionals presents award, scholarships

PETERSBURG –  The Tri-City Association of Educational Office Professionals  (TCAEOP) celebrated their  47th Annual Bosses’ Night Banquet at 6 p.m., May 22nd , at The Children’s Home of Virginia Baptist, Inc.   Bosses’ Night is an annual event where educational office professionals honor their supervisors for support of the Association, and to express grateful appreciation for the unselfish and dedicated service they provide in the workplace.

Greetings were extended by Dr. Franklin Jackson, Associate Dean, Cooperative Extension Department and Ms. Adrienne Whitaker, Associate Vice President for Institutional Advancement, both from Virginia State University; Dr. Joseph Melvin, Superintendent, Petersburg City Public Schools, and Mrs. Brenda Steward, CEOE, President, Virginia Association of Educational Office Professionals. The Association awards two scholarships each year to deserving high school and/or collegiate students.   This year’s recipients were Faith Tamera Pritchett, a graduate of Petersburg High School and Justin Tyler Scott, a graduate of the Appomattox Regional Governor’s School for Arts and Technology.  Both students received a $500 scholarship to help them with their college expenses.  Pritchett plans to attend Virginia  State University and Scott plans to attend North Carolina A & T State University. The theme for the banquet was “A Red Carpet Affair” and the supervisors and guests were made to feel like celebrities for the evening.

The Association also presented the Educational Administrator of the Year Award and the recipient was Dr. Oluwarotimi Odeh, Chairman, Department of Agriculture, Virginia State University. The evening ended with a presentation to TCAEOP, made by Dr. Jewel Hairston, Dean and Dr. Franklin Jackson, Associate Dean, from the VSU College of Agriculture for maintaining a local Association of a recognized State and National professional organization and for recognizing supervisors each year and celebrating Bosses Night for 47 years.  The plaque was received by President Thelma Jefferson on behalf of the entire Tri-City Association.
