Petersburg – The Tri-City Association of Educational Office Professionals (TCAEOP) held their 51ST Annual  Bosses’ Night Celebration at 6:00 p.m. at the Tabernacle Baptist Church’s Community Life Center on Thursday, May 24, 2018.  The theme for the evening was “Flying High Reaching, For the Stars While Soaring Into The Future.”  Bosses’ Night is an annual event where educational office professionals honor their supervisors for their support of the Association, and to express grateful appreciation for the professional, unselfish and dedicated service they provide in the workplace.

Greetings were extended by Dr. Makola M. Abdullah, President, Virginia State University and Dr. Marcus J. Newsome, Superintendent, Petersburg Public Schools.

The Tri-City AEOP awards two scholarships each year to deserving high school and/or college students.  This year’s recipients were Miss Parker Monia Coats, a graduate of Petersburg High School and Ms. Destiny N. Simms, also a graduate of Petersburg High School.  Both students received a $500.00 scholarship to help them with their college expenses.  Miss Coats plans to attend Norfolk State University and major in Mass Communications and Ms. Simms plans to attend James Madison University and major in Psychology.

To climax the evening, the 2018 Educational Administrator of the Year Award was presented to Mr. Torrey S. Manson, Supervisor of  Special Education for the Petersburg Public School System.  Also presented was the 2018 Educational Office Professional of the Year Award to Mr. Nelson Jefferson, Past President of TCAEOP and Circulation Assistant at the Johnston Memorial Library at Virginia State University.

Entertainment for the evening was provided by Mr. Gil Edwards whose mix of songs included standard and popular tunes made famous by Fats Waller, Nat King Cole, Johnny Mathis and The Temptations.
